JOSH Coburn is ready to start firing again after a three-month injury absence and wasted little time on his return.

Coburn, 23, was in the squad that travelled up to Burnley for Millwall’s FA Cup Third Round tie last weekend, and came off the bench to score a last-minute goal.

While that only served as a consolation, with the Clarets already up 5-0, Coburn hopes to use it as a springboard for further success.

“I was really, really happy,” Coburn told NewsAtDen. “It’s a good marker for me to get back into things and get my confidence up straight away. Obviously, it wasn’t a good result, but hopefully we can now concentrate on the league and score a few goals there as well.

“I feel good now. I feel fit and ready, and hopefully now I can really start to kick on.

“We’ve got a few lads back from injury as well, and I think the squad’s looking really strong. So hopefully we can just go and kick on and try and get as far up the table as possible.”

The goal was a worthy reward for the lengthy spell on the sidelines that Coburn, and many of his teammates, have endured this season.

The striker started eight of the first nine league games of the season, his first campaign since Millwall made his loan spell permanent for a club-record fee last summer, before picking up a quad injury in the October international break.

“It was quite a big injury, so it was slow to start with, but I tried to work on myself a lot,” Coburn said. “In the gym, putting on a bit of size on my upper body and trying to not get injured again. I worked with [sports scientist] Ayo [Awosika] to build my strength up everywhere I can really.”
