Oxford United have backed new boss Matt Bloomfield this month, and more business is eyed with Andrias Edmundsson wanted.
Oxford United have submitted a bid for Wisla Plock defender Andrias Edmundsson, according to Rudy Galetti.
Oxford United find themselves within the midst if a relegation battle in the Championship, and will be keen to replicate last term. OUFC finished four points above the second tier drop last season, however are currently in 23rd place, three points adrift of safety.
Now under the management of Matt Bloomfield, the U’s have made an unbeaten start to their new manager’s reign. Back-to-back 0-0 draws were followed up with a big 2-1 away victory at Leicester City
With the January transfer window approaching an end, clubs will be keen to strike their deals soon in order to give themselves the best advantage going into the second half of the campaign. OUFC have done so thus far, adding five players to their squad, and they aren’t finished yet.
According to Rudy Galetti, Oxford United’s latest winter target is Faroe Islands international defender Andrias Edmundsson, who currently plays in Poland for Wisla Plock. Edmundsson has been subject to interest from across Europe, though is keen a move to English football amid a bid from the Yellows.
Oxford United target Foroyar centre back
Centre-back Edmundsson is a name that few will recognise in English football, though a move to Oxford United wouldn’t be his first to these shores.
As a teenager, the towering defender spent several years in the Sunderland youth academy, though never made an appearance for the Black Cats’ first team.
He then headed to the fourth tier of Spanish football, playing for CDA Aguilas FC, before heading to Poland to join third tier outfit Chojniczanka Chonjnice. Edmundsson then climbed the ladder of Polish football, signing for his current club Wisla Plock, who competed in the second tier upon his arrival.
Last term, his side earned promotion up to the Ekstraklasa and currently sit joint-top of the Polish first tier, with the OUFC target starting every league game.
OUFC to strengthen backline
Bloomfield will be keen to add to his defensive numbers across the last week of the transfer window, having limited options at the heart of his defence.
So far, five players have come through the door at the Kassam Stadium, and Edmundsson may become a 6th.
Four midfielders by way of Jamie McDonnell from Nottingham Forest, Yunus Konak and Myles Peart-Harris from Brentford and Jamie Donley from Spurs have all joined the U’s. Winger Jin-Woo Jeon has also arrived, though defensive priorities are a must.
It has been a busy month for the Yellows and further activity could lay ahead over the next week.
