‘HE’S NOT PLAYING HIS GAME’: SOL CAMPBELL BLASTS £110K-A-WEEK ARSENAL STAR V TOTTENHAM

Sol Campbell wasn’t impressed by Jorginho’s costly performance as Arsenal dropped points at home to Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby on Sunday.

The Arsenal legend says when Jorginho replaced Declan Rice at half-time ‘he wasn’t playing his game’, hence why he offered Tottenham a helping hand for their second goal, as he told Premier League Productions (24/09/023 at 4:15 pm).

Bukayo Saka had just put Arsenal ahead after the break via the penalty spot, as there were jubilant scenes in the stands.

But within a minute of going back into the lead, Jorginho started to dwell on the ball too much, and tried to be too clever, before being robbed of the ball by James Maddison, who in combination with Son Heung-min, punished Arsenal to level the scores.

Given that Jorginho is one of the more experienced players in the squad and his game is about being reliable on the ball, then it just makes matters worse for the 31-year-old.

All in all, Sol Campbell didn’t like what he saw from the £110k-a-week (Spotrac) January signing from Chelsea.

Jorginho hands Tottenham a costly goal against Arsenal

“He’s not playing his game,” said Campbell. “He usually gets the ball moving quicker, that’s his game. You have the chance to pass Ben White out wide, he’s scanning, scanning, then he is in a muddle here and they nick the ball off him.

“So many goals are scored in the first five minutes when a goal is scored, so you have to be aware.

“They will be disappointed in how they allowed Tottenham back into the game. Okay, Rice goes off and Jorginho comes on, he’s not really playing his game. He is more receive pass, receive pass.

“But he was trying to do some interesting step over in the middle of the park. Gets robbed and then it’s game on again.”

Dropped points for Arsenal

With Manchester City steaming ahead of a 100% start to the new campaign, then this is, without a doubt, dropped points for Arsenal.

Not only did Mikel Arteta’s side open the scoring, but they re-took the lead again, only for Jorginho to provide Spurs with an early Christmas present.

That defensive side of Arsenal’s game needs sorting, or else, they won’t come anywhere near the runaway train that is sitting at the top of the tree right now.
