‘I ALWAYS SAID’: PUNDIT SAYS 2 ARSENAL PLAYERS WILL COST THEM THE PREMIER LEAGUE TITLE

Paul Merson has called for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal to replace Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus if they want to go to the ‘next level’.

The former Arsenal forward thinks that Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus don’t have what it takes to win them the Premier League title.

On Sunday, Mikel Arteta watched his team drop valuable points as they recorded a 2-2 draw at home to Tottenham, with Gabriel Jesus missing a guilt-edge chance to make it 2-0 before Spurs equalised.

The Brazil star, who nicked the ball off James Maddison on the edge of his own area, failed to even test the keeper, and instead, blazed his shot well over the bar.

That left Merson frustrated and he thinks that Arsenal need a ‘proper centre forward’ in their ranks, as he told Sky Sports.

The name of Ivan Toney was thrown on the table by the outspoken pundit, who expressed his frustration towards Nketiah and Jesus.

Can Nketiah and Jesus help Arsenal win the Premier League title?

“I’ve always said it from day one – Eddie Nketiah is not going to win you the Premier League,” said Merson.

“You need a proper centre forward. I’m not blaming Nketiah because they drew 2-2 with Tottenham but with 32 games to go and all the Champions League games they have to play, I don’t think he takes them to the next level. I don’t even think Gabriel Jesus takes them to the next level.

“I was so confident that Arsenal would win on Sunday but when I saw the teams, I was majorly worried. Jesus on the wing, Nketiah up front, Fabio Vieira – I don’t think he’s good enough.

“Only Ivan Toney is available for them in January – there aren’t many centre forwards around in the world. They’re a dying breed.”

Jesus is better than Nketiah

When it comes to Jesus, he is the proven one and has the medals following his successes in the colours of Manchester City.

On the other hand, Nketiah, is still trying to prove that he belongs at the top table, even though he recently signed a new long-term deal.

When it comes to making ruthless calls, Arteta has done it all over the pitch, including with his goalkeepers.

But perhaps some Arsenal fans think that mindset and type of action needs to be used towards his forward players.
