The season ending probably can’t come soon enough for David Moyes after Everton’s defeat to Man City.
It wasn’t the worst performance in the world from Everton who put in a valiant display only losing late on to Pep Guardiola’s City.
The result leaves the Toffees in mid-table, but Moyes can’t fault his players too much after a resurgence.
Guardiola said Everton’s set-pieces are unstoppable, showing how progress is being made under the Scotsman.
However, Moyes still sees plenty of areas for improvement and made that very clear to one Everton player.
David Moyes furious at Carlos Alcaraz after Everton loss to Man City
The Everton fans will be frustrated they’ve seen a loss at Goodison Park, as Moyes’ side were six unbeaten at The Grand Old Lady.
Hopefully, the Toffees can give the famous ground the perfect send-off with their remaining two home games against Southampton and Ipswich.
But Moyes will no doubt want to focus on how his squad are playing, and after an impressive performance vs Nottingham Forest, their hard work was undone against City.
There were some poor performances as Michael Keane was ‘all over the place’ with his future looking summed up, and now Carlos Alcaraz might have his future considered after what he did.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Moyes made his feelings clear about Alcaraz giving the ball away, which lead to Nico O’Reilly’s opening goal.
“I thought we should have definitely dealt with the first goal better than we did do, but we had given the ball away terribly,” Moyes said.
“A simple pass around the box which would have maybe made the difference.”
Alcaraz has to be careful with Moyes questioning at Everton
With the jury still out on Alcaraz, Moyes might be questioning whether he wants to pay the £15m option to buy.
Since the Argentine has arrived, he has looked promising, but Moyes hasn’t started Alcaraz much at Everton, which shows where the Scotsman’s stance is.
It has been said Everton are dodging Alcaraz’s buy option, as that has all been confirmed now with only five games left, Alcaraz can’t achieve the nine starts that were laid out to achieve the £15m fee.
This is due to the midfielder’s four starts, but it still doesn’t mean Everton can’t sign the 22-year-old.
Alcaraz wants a long-term Everton stay, but Moyes might have other ideas after Alcaraz cost the Toffees against City.
