Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus produced a fantastic performance during the club’s 2-1 win over Sevilla in the Champions League group stage last night.
The Gunners had a tough outing against Chelsea on the road last weekend. They secured a 2-2 draw but were outplayed for the majority of the derby.
Against Sevilla, it was an evenly-matched contest and Jesus made the difference for the club in either half with his fantastic goal contributions.
Arsenal opened the scoring before the interval after a brilliant Cruyff turn from Jesus in his box before putting Gabriel Martinelli clear on goal.
Martinelli’s pace took Sevilla’s defenders out of the game. He showed terrific composure by rounding the goalkeeper before slotting into an empty net.
Shortly after the break, a moment of brilliance from Jesus put the Gunners into a two-goal lead.
The Brazil international was allowed to cut inside from the left flank and he scored with a curling effort into the top right corner of Orjan Nyland’s net.
Sevilla managed to reduce the deficit through Nemanja Gudelj’s powerful header in the 58th minute, but Arsenal were able to hold on for the victory.
David Raya had a nervous moment in stoppage time with his punch almost turning into an own goal but luckily, the Gunners were on the winning side.
Jesus was the stand-out performer by a large margin in our opinion. Aside from his goal & assist, he completed 92 per cent of his passes. He delivered three key passes and won four duels.
The victory has put the Gunners top of their Champions League group. They can secure qualification to the round of 16 with a win over Sevilla at home if Lens beat PSV.
Meanwhile, victories over both Sevilla and Lens in the next two games would guarantee first position.
Arsenal will be in Premier League action against Sheffield United at the Emirates this weekend. Jesus is a major doubt for the game after picking up a hamstring injury.
