“Would be a big blow”: Oxford United vs Hull City predictions

The72’s writers offer their Oxford United vs Hull City predictions ahead of the Championship clash on Saturday.

Oxford United host Hull City at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday in their latest Championship outing.

Oxford United are in the bottom three along with Leicester City and Sheffield Wednesday. OUFC are one point from safety behind Portsmouth in 21st.

The U’s lost 2-0 away at Southampton last time out before the international break. They only had 31% possession and one shot on target against the Saints at St Mary’s.

Hull City remain inside the play-offs along with Ipswich Town, Millwall and Southampton as they eye promotion to the Premier League. HCAFC have enjoyed an impressive campaign against the odds this term.

Sergej Jakirovic has done an eye-catching job in charge of the Tigers. He made the switch to East Yorkshire last June and he has since adapted well to life in England.

The East Yorkshire outfit beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-1 in their last outing. Kyle Joseph and Matt Crooks were on the scoresheet against the Owls, whilst Dominic Iorfa scored an own goal.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Harry Mail

“Oxford United are fighting for their lives and could do with a result here. OUFC have seven games left to save themselves.

“The U’s are unbeaten in their last three outings at the Kassam Stadium. Therefore, they should be feeling confident ahead of this weekend.

“Hull City are strong on the road and will want to bounce back from their defeat at West Brom last time out on their travels. HCAFC have lost only two of their last 11 away matches.

“The Tigers have Southampton, Wrexham and Derby County breathing down their neck now. I think they may have to settle for a point on Saturday though against a battling Oxford United side.”

Prediction: Oxford United 1-1 Hull City

Luke Phelps

“Anything less than a win for Hull City here would be a big blow. They absolutely need to be beating these lower-end Championship teams in their play-off quest and I think Oxford could really struggle in this one.

“I think they’re going to be relegated this season. That said, they’ve been putting up a good fight in recent weeks and they’re not making it easy for the teams around them, nor will they make it easy for the Tigers.

“But I think Hull City’s attacking quality and overall momentum will land them an important win on Friday.”

Prediction: Oxford United 1-2 Hull City
