Oxford United can confirm that Women’s First Team Manager Liam Gilbert has departed the club by mutual consent.
Gilbert, who returned to the club in November 2025 for a second spell as Head Coach, leaves having played a key role in a progressive and competitive 2025/26 campaign.
Oxford United Women have shown strong development under his leadership, including an impressive start to 2026 which saw the team secure three wins from three league matches, earning him FA Women’s National League Premier Division Manager of the Month for January.
During his tenure, Gilbert continued to build on the club’s transition to a hybrid professional model—enhancing training standards, strengthening the squad, and further embedding a high-performance culture across the women’s programme. His tactical approach, typically favouring a structured 4-2-3-1 system, brought consistency and identity to the team’s style of play.
Gilbert also brought valuable experience from his previous roles at Reading and Burnley, as well as his earlier successful spell with Oxford United Women between 2018 and 2023, where he helped establish the foundations for the club’s long-term growth.

The club can confirm that the current coaching staff will take interim charge of the Women’s First Team with immediate effect, including preparations for the upcoming fixture schedule.
A formal recruitment process is now underway as the club looks to appoint a new Women’s First Team Manager capable of building on recent progress and continuing the upward trajectory of the programme.
