Arsenal have been forced to field a slightly weakened team in recent weeks.
The Gunners have been struggling through a minor injury crisis at the Emirates as the likes of Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Jesus and Thomas Partey have struggled for fitness, but, luckily, most of the north London club’s key players should be back soon.
One man who is very much on the road to recovery is Gabriel Jesus. The striker has been on Brazil duty over the past week and all signs indicate he’s back at something close to full fitness.
The 26-year-old’s return to form leaves Mikel Arteta with something of a selection headache as Leandro Trossard has been playing very well as of late. However, according to Kevin Campbell, speaking on the Highbury Squad YouTube channel, Jesus will come straight back in and Trossard will be dropped once the main man is back ready to start up front.
Trossard will be dropped for Jesus
Campbell gave his verdict on this situation.
“Jesus comes back in, sorry Trossard. I think Trossard is a top player, but he’s not Jesus. Jesus gives us another dimension. I was hoping when Jesus went down that Trossard would have grabbed a few games a bit more, but he shared the load with Eddie a bit more. Jesus is the top man, he is the top man,” Campbell said.
Not done enough
Trossard has been very good for Arsenal lately, but you have to do something truly special if you are to displace a player like Jesus.
The £27M man has done himself no disservice as Arsenal’s starting striker, but Jesus is one of the best in the world at what he does, and Arsenal are a different team without him.
Trossard will get more chances. After all, he’s incredibly talented and incredibly versatile, but a spell on the bench may be on the horizon for the Belgian once Jesus is back.
