PAUL SCHOLES IMPRESSED BY ‘BRILLIANT’ ARSENAL DUO AFTER WIN OVER BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal returned to the top of the Premier League table on Sunday.

When Arsenal played Brighton and Hove Albion towards the back end of last season at the Emirates, they were outclassed and that defeat all but ended their Premier League title hopes.

Fast forward a few months later and they were cursing to a 2-0 win and going back to the top of the tree in England’s top-flight.

Two men who left Paul Scholes impressed during that game were Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard, as he told Premier League Productions (17/12/23 at 4:00 pm).

The duo didn’t get on the scoresheet, nor did they register any assists, but they did run proceedings in the middle of the park.

Some felt that Arsenal’s man with the armband was having a slow start to the campaign, but in recent matches, he is starting to find his form again.

And with the games coming thick and fast during this very busy period, it’s all starting to come together at the right time.

“Give Arsenal credit, they were brilliant,” said Scholes. “I thought Declan Rice playing in midfield was great. Odegaard was brilliant as well.

“And they got the goals in which the game fully deserved.”

Arsenal make Anfield trip

Those dropped points against Liverpool last season will still be haunting Arsenal fans because it started their title collapse.

Luckily, they are visiting Anfield a lot earlier in the season so, if they lose, it’s not going to cut so deep.

But with Manchester City dropping points again, struggling and now in Saudi Arabia for the Club World Cup.

This provides both Liverpool and Arsenal with a chance to make a statement at the weekend.
