ALAN SHEARER SHOWERS PRAISE ON ARSENAL MIDFIELDER FOR HIS PERFORMANCE AGAINST BRIGHTON

Alan Shearer was impressed with the performance of Declan Rice as Arsenal ran out 2-0 winners against Brighton & Hove Albion at Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

The England international midfielder put in yet another five-star performance in the middle of the park as the Gunners returned to the top of the Premier League after Liverpool dropped points following a goalless draw against Manchester United later in the day.

Ian Wright claimed that Rice is making the initial £100 million Arsenal spent on him in the summer look like a bargain, and Shearer could not agree more.

“By the way, I know we keep mentioning him, but oh my god, Declan Rice again yesterday,” the Premier League legend said on The Rest is Football podcast.

“Honestly, he was just…in everything he did, whether he was protecting the back-four, whether he was bursting forward with the ball, having efforts at goal, he was fantastic.

“Wright said it last night, he’s making a £100m look like a bargain.”

That’s quite a statement,” Gary Lineker replied.

“He was that good honestly,” Shearer continued.

Rice was in impeccable form against the Seagulls, putting in another man-of-the-match display, and West Ham United could start feeling that they have demanded more from Arsenal for his services.

He recorded a 91% pass accuracy, completed one successful dribble, made 100% accurate crosses, 100% long balls, had four recoveries, three interceptions and six touches in the opposition box, and the Gunners were the better side last night because of his huge influence in midfield.

Arsenal had won just one of their last five games across all competitions against Brighton, losing the other four, but they are not the same side that lost those games having made some quality recruitment in the summer.

They visit Anfield on Saturday to take on Liverpool, and Rice will be raring to go and make a huge difference against the Reds.

Arsenal have a great chance of finally winning the Premier League title for the first time since 2004 because of such a massive player, and pipping Manchester City to his services in the summer is a masterstroke without an iota of doubt.
