‘Star in the making’… Pundit thinks Arsenal will have huge regrets if they don’t sign £15m player

The January transfer window could prove a very difficult one for Mikel Arteta and Arsenal to navigate this month.

Just a few weeks ago, the club looked to be in excellent shape, and it almost seemed as if the window could be ignored.

However, back to back defeats against West Ham United and Fulham have completely changed the club’s momentum.

Suddenly Arsenal look worryingly bereft of goals, creativity and attacking flair.

Neither Mikel Arteta or the club’s hierarchy will be keen to produce a knee-jerk reaction, however, the January transfer window does now seem an important opportunity for Arsenal.

And with that in mind, pundit Robbie Earle thinks the club may regret it if they fail to make a move for Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz.

Earle’s words can be applied to January and beyond, but the pundit is adamant that Arsenal should be chasing the Brazilian.

Speaking on ‘The 2 Robbies Podcast’ the pundit suggested such a regret could still be avoidable.

Earle said: “Douglas Luiz I think is a star in the making. I think Arsenal would look at him and probably think we missed out on that one.”

Robbie Earle suggests Arsenal should attempt to sign Douglas Luiz in January transfer window

It’s certainly an interesting debate.

Very few will disagree with Earle’s view that 25-year-old Douglas Luiz can go on to be one of the league’s best, he’s already making a good case.

But considering Villa would understandably demand a ton more than the £15m they paid for Luiz, a deal may not represent value.

A fee upwards of £100m for the Brazilian should be avoided.

Although, there is merit to think that Arsenal could improve their attacking performances with the addition of a midfielder and not a striker in the January transfer window.

The arrival of a top number six at the club would allow Declan Rice freedom to contribute in attacking areas.

Moreover, Kai Havertz could then be used in a position to best utilise his goal scoring ability.

Whether it’s Douglas Luiz or another player, Arsenal would massively benefit from the arrival of a holding midfielder.

Thomas Partey would be the perfect player for the job, however, he simply doesn’t seem to be able to maintain a level of fitness.

That being said, it’s actually a defender that seems to be taking most of Arsenal’s scouting attention right now.
