‘What a player’… Alan Shearer left amazed by one Arsenal man despite FA Cup exit

Alan Shearer lauded Arsenal wonder kid during their FA Cup third-round clash against Liverpool today.

Mikel Arteta’s men completely dominated the opening half against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

Arsenal did everything apart from sticking the ball in the back of the net, with the likes of Reiss Nelson, Kai Havertz and Martin Odegaard all going close.

It’s been the story of Arsenal’s season so far as they’ve struggled to score from open play, with Arteta’s men currently the worst side in the Premier League in that regard.

But there were plenty of positives to take from that first-half display at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon and Bukayo Saka looked particularly bright.

The 22-year-old caused Liverpool huge problems with his pace and directness down the right-hand side.

And it’s fair to say that Alan Shearer was impressed with the Hale End Academy product.

Shearer amazed by Saka

Speaking on BBC’s coverage of today’s FA Cup third-round clash, Shearer singled out Saka for praise after a bright start to the game.

“What a player and what an attitude,” the Newcastle United legend said. “I love it. Brilliant. I love watching him.

“He plays with energy and such enthusiasm. Great player.”

Arteta would have been frustrated during the interval after yet another wasteful half in front of goal.

It’s easy to see why Arsenal are heavily linked with moves for a host of top strikers, including the likes of Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen.

Unsurprisingly, Liverpool improved after a lacklustre opening 45 minutes and started to cerate opportunities of their own. Darwin Nunez went close but Arsenal soon kicked into top gear once again.

The chances continued to flow for Arsenal and it must be said that Saka’s performance dropped off significantly in the second period.

Arsenal were eventually made to rue their missed chances as Jakub Kiwior turned the ball into his own net in the 80th minute. Luis Diaz then put the game beyond doubt in stoppage time to send Arsenal crashing out of the FA Cup.
