Arsenal is currently having discussions with FC Nantes about bringing back the ‘very popular’ Brazilian player, Marquinhos, from his loan spell in January, as reported by various sources.

Marquinhos, who is part of the Brazil U23 national team, joined the French club on loan for the entire season in August. However, despite being there for a few months, he has only been given one opportunity to start in a match.

The young winger, who was signed by Arsenal in the summer of 2022 on a long-term contract, might be returning to the Emirates earlier than planned, according to information from L’Équipe.

Since joining Arsenal, Marquinhos has played six times, making a notable impact by scoring a goal and providing an assist in his debut during a Europa League victory against FC Zurich.

After that match, Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, praised Marquinhos, emphasizing his popularity within the team. Arteta stated, ‘He’s a player that is very popular, with no English, just with his smile and attitude has won the respect and admiration of everybody here. It was a big step for him as he hasn’t played enough minutes with us, but we were willing to give him the opportunity, I think he deserved it. He took it really well and again, it’s another player that needs to keep developing, in order to do that we have to give them minutes and opportunities.’

Marquinhos had a loan spell with Norwich City in the Championship last season, where he made 11 appearances. Before his move to England, he spent his entire career at the Brazilian club Sao Paulo, playing 42 times for his boyhood club.

His achievements include winning the Campeonato Paulista with Sao Paulo in 2021 and experiencing success at the Pan American Games with the Brazil U23s last year.
