Arsenal are expected to pay at least £60 million to capture Everton midfielder Amadou Onana in January.
The 22-year-old went to Goodison Park from Lille in June 2022 for a reputed £33 million and has since established himself as an important first-team member for boss Sean Dyche’s Toffees.
Onana has made 56 appearances for Everton in all competitions, contributing three goals and three assists, with the box-to-box midfielder appearing 21 times this season.
The Belgium international’s contract with Everton does not expire until June 2027, although he has been linked with a big-money move to a European team.
Manchester United are allegedly keeping a close eye on Onana’s future amid suggestions that Everton could be forced to sell a few of their first-team stars to balance their books and avoid breaching FFP rules.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are said to hold a firm interest in Onana, with a recent report claiming that the Gunners have approached Everton to discuss a possible January deal for the midfielder.
According to Football Insider, the Toffees have set a £60 million asking price for Onana and have no intention of selling him this month.
Onana is regarded as an important component of Dyche’s first-team squad, with the club embroiled in a relegation scrap following a 10-point deduction by the Premier League in November.
Everton’s current record sale is the £75 million they received from the transfer of striker Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United in 2017.
It has to be seen whether Arsenal are willing to pay large this month after spending over £200 million last summer on Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, and Jurrien Timber.
The Gunners are thought to have identified Onana as a prospective midfield target amid uncertainty surrounding the long-term futures of Mohamed Elneny, who is out of contract in June, Thomas Partey, Jorginho, and Emile Smith Rowe.
