Roy Keane Blasts ‘Clueless’ Leeds Star After Bournemouth Draw

Roy Keane delivered a trademark no-nonsense verdict after Leeds United’s nervy 2-2 draw with AFC Bournemouth on Tuesday, accusing one Leeds player of being “clueless” following costly mistakes that almost handed Bournemouth the win at the Vitality Stadium.



The match finished level after both sides traded goals in a frantic second half, but Keane was furious with how Leeds nearly threw the game away. Speaking on Sky Sports, the former Manchester United captain didn’t name the individual, but his description left little room for doubt.



“I’ve seen some silly mistakes, but that was clueless,” Keane said. “You’re in a tight game, 2-2, and he switches off at the back post. No awareness, no reaction, nothing. At this level you get punished. Bournemouth nearly made them pay.”



Keane highlighted two second-half moments where the Leeds defender was caught out of position, allowing Bournemouth to create clear chances. “It’s basic defending,” he added. “Track your runner. Talk. Clear your lines. He did none of it. That’s not bad luck, that’s concentration.”



The Irishman has been critical of Leeds before, once calling it “silly” for them to think they’re “as big as Man United” and previously describing their defending as “dreadful”. Tuesday’s criticism was just as blunt.



“You can’t have players going missing in key moments if you want to stay up,” Keane warned. “One lapse you might get away with. Two in one half? That’s a mentality problem. The Premier League doesn’t forgive that.”



Leeds remain locked in the relegation fight, now sitting just two points above the bottom three with six games to play. For Keane, the message was simple: cut out the “silly mistakes” fast.



“The score finished 2-2, but it should have been a loss with defending like that,” he said. “They got away with it this time. They won’t next time if that keeps happening.”
