Arsenal have been alerted to the availability of Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson after it emerged that he could be sold for £18 million next week, according to the Evening Standard.

The Gunners are desperate to bolster their attacking ranks in their bid to mount a stronger title challenge this season, but deals for the likes of Brentford hitman Ivan Toney and other striking targets have proven impossible.

However, they have received an unlikely and timely boost as the Magpies are desperate to raise money to ensure they stay in line with Premier League profit and sustainability rules.

Having spent around £400m since their takeover by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund in 2021, Newcastle have to balance the books, and Wilson has emerged as a sellable asset.

However, Arsenal are not the only club monitoring the situation of the 31-year-old.

Chelsea and Manchester United also want the former Bournemouth hitman, while Atletico Madrid and AC Milan are keen to take him out of the Premier League.

Wilson wants to move to where he can play regularly, with a place in the England squad for the 2024 European Championship on his mind.

The Gunners have Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah as their current striking options, while Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz are also capable of leading the line.

Financial Fair Play (FFP) constraints have restrained them from splashing the cash this month, but getting Wilson for £18m could be too juicy a deal for them to turn down.

Arsenal could be open to finally selling Nketiah, with Crystal Palace keen on the Hale End graduate.

Wilson brings much-needed experience and quality to the table despite being a short-term solution, and the North Londoners could do with a striker with 86 Premier League goals to his name.

He has scored seven league goals in 14 league games this term after ending his first three seasons at Newcastle with 38 league goals.

Wilson is a decent finisher and an upgrade on both Jesus and Nketiah, and landing him could make all the difference for Arsenal as they aim to win their first league title since 2004.
