WRIGHT BIZARRELY CRITICISES BUKAYO SAKA AFTER ARSENAL TRASH BURNLEY 5-0

Well, this goalscoring lark is pretty easy for Arsenal! Who needs a striker?! 

That’s two games and 11 goals for Mikel Arteta and his players, including Bukayo Saka helping himself to four goals and two penalties.

Last week, the 22-year-old beat Alphonse Areola to score his spot kick, after previously missing one at the London Stadium last season, before seeing past James Trafford during the 5-0 thumping of Burnley on Saturday.

But Tim Sherwood alongside Ian Wright says Bukayo Saka’s penalty ‘wasn’t convincing’ and was, in actual fact, ‘poor’, as he told Premier League Productions (17/02/24 at 5:10 pm).

It was some rather bizarre criticism from the former Premier League manager because the Arsenal academy product has stepped up and is now proving to be reliable from the spot.

Added to that, amid the cries for the club needing a striker, players like Bukayo Saka are proving that a number nine wasn’t needed during the January transfer window.

The England international now has 12 Premier League goals and eight assists to his name, including seven goal contributions in the Champions League.

But it was the star boy’s penalty that caught the eye of Tim Sherwood, for the wrong reasons.

“Then it’s up to Saka and this is not convincing,” said Sherwood. “It’s convincing enough when it nestles behind the goalkeeper into the back of the net, but if you are an Arsenal fan, you would have had your heart in your mouth at that stage.

“It was a poor penalty. You look at the goalkeeper, he should save it. I mean, it has gone underneath his hand.

“But at the end of the day, it ended up in the back of the net.”

Arsenal return to Champions League action
This is the best mood Arsenal have been in all season long and they should fancy themselves ahead of their trip to Portugal to take on Porto in the Champions League.

Manchester City did their job in the first leg of their knockout tie against Copenhagen and now it’s Arsenal’s turn.

Not many teams in Europe’s elite competition are looking like they can go on to win the whole thing, with the champions themselves, Real Madrid, Inter and Arsenal the ones many would probably fancy.

Either way, this provides Arsenal with a huge chance to push deep into the Champions League and perhaps shock the world by winning the whole thing.
