Arsenal forward Kai Havertz has showered teammate Bukayo Saka with praise following the Gunners’ 2-0 win against Wolves on Saturday, marking a strong start to the Premier League season.
Goals from Havertz and Saka, scored on either side of halftime, secured the victory for Arsenal on the opening weekend.
As Arsenal aim to surpass their previous campaigns, where they finished second to Manchester City, both Saka and Havertz are expected to play pivotal roles. Last season, the duo was instrumental in Arsenal’s title challenge, with Saka netting 16 Premier League goals and Havertz contributing 13—no other player at the club scored more.
Speaking after the match, Havertz expressed his admiration for Saka, calling his performances “unbelievable” and highlighting the young forward’s consistency. “Saka is unbelievable,” Havertz told Sky Sports (via BBC Sport).
“There are not a lot of players like him on the planet, and he is still so young. He can get better. It is very rare to see a young player like this perform every week at the highest level.”
While the attacking duo garnered attention, it was Arsenal’s defensive solidity that truly stood out against Wolves. The Gunners restricted their opponents to just 0.39 expected goals (xG), while also outperforming Wolves in key defensive metrics, including tackles (13 to 12), interceptions (8 to 6), and clearances (15 to 14).
Despite the clean sheet, Kai Havertz believes there is still room for improvement. “We can be happy, but there was some room to improve,” he admitted. “The first 20 minutes were good. We had good chances. Then we lost a bit of control, and our press didn’t work. But we defended deep very well. We didn’t give them a lot of chances, and it is three points.”
Arsenal will look to build on this strong start when they visit Aston Villa next weekend. The Gunners will need to maintain their defensive discipline if they hope to continue their push for the Premier League title.
