Wright attributed Martinelli’s decision to his “desperation to do well” after a lackluster previous season and the competition he faces from Leandro Trossard. Wright emphasised that Martinelli’s eagerness to impress may have led him to overlook a better option that could have put Arsenal two goals up before halftime
