Kai Havertz says one Arsenal teammate is truly ‘ridiculous’ in training
Kai Havertz has become a really popular player among Arsenal fans.
There were a lot of eyebrows raised in 2023 when Mikel Arteta decided to sign the Germany international from Chelsea for big money. Havertz struggled in the first few months of the season too, and that led to a lot of criticism.
Now, the 25-year-old is one of the first names on the Arsenal team sheet, and he has formed a strong connection with the fans as well as many of his teammates.
Speaking on TNT Sports, Havertz has now had his say about his relationship with one Arsenal player who he loved even before they became teammates.
Kai Havertz says Arsenal teammate Martin Odegaard is ‘ridiculous’
Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard is one of the best players in the Premier League.
The Norway international’s ability on the ball combined with his passing, dribbling and vision makes him a really difficult player to defend against.
Odegaard has come up with the goods on plenty of occasions for Arsenal, and everyone knows how good he is in games.
Havertz has now claimed that it’s not just in matches that Odegaard is ‘ridiculous’, it’s the same in training sessions too.
The German has revealed that he’s often left confused about what to do when he’s chasing Odegaard to get the ball back and the Arsenal skipper gets away from him using his skills.
Havertz says Odegaard leaves everyone shocked to the point that they’re all wondering how he can do those things on the pitch.
He told Rio Ferdinand on TNT Sports: “I think the connection with him was there from the first second, to be honest. I loved him always as a player, I used to watch him a lot, especially the season before I came to Arsenal, when we played them.
“He’s ridiculous in what he does, not only in the game but in training, it’s crazy, like, I don’t know, you follow him and he has the ball in front of you and he just does those movements and I’m like ‘where do I go now?’
“Everyone is thinking like ‘how is he doing that?’ He plays so simple, he plays so easy but he always, like, plays so dangerous as well.”
Havertz could explode at Arsenal this season
One of the biggest reasons why Havertz struggled at Arsenal was because he was deployed as a left-sided number eight initially by Arteta.
The German wasn’t as awful as some people made it seem, but you could tell that it wasn’t his best position. He is much more comfortable up front and has proved it since being moved there.
Havertz is expected to play most of this season, if not all of it, as Arsenal’s number nine, and that should help him produce better numbers than he did in his debut campaign.
Havertz directly contributed to 21 goals in all competitions in the 2023/24 season. We won’t be surprised if that number goes up to 30 this term
