Elkan Baggott Confirms Ipswich Town Exit Following Transfer List Decision

Ipswich Town defender Elkan Baggott has officially confirmed that he will be leaving the club this summer after being placed on the transfer list, bringing an end to his long association with the Tractor Boys.

The 24-year-old centre-back announced the decision following discussions with the club, with both parties agreeing that a permanent move would be the best solution ahead of the new campaign.

Baggott, who progressed through Ipswich’s academy and became one of Indonesia’s most recognisable footballers, has struggled to establish himself as a regular first-team starter despite his potential and impressive performances during several loan spells.

Competition for places in defence has limited his opportunities at Portman Road, and with new head coach Gary O’Neill beginning to shape his squad for the 2026/27 season, Baggott has opted to seek regular first-team football elsewhere.

Speaking after confirming his departure, the Indonesian international thanked everyone connected with the club.

“Ipswich Town has been my home for many years, and I’ll always be grateful for everything the club has done for me. I’ve learned so much here, but I believe now is the right time to take on a new challenge and continue developing my career with regular football.”

Baggott leaves Ipswich having represented the club across league and cup competitions while also gaining valuable experience during loan spells that helped accelerate his development. His performances at international level with Indonesia have continued to enhance his reputation, and several clubs in England and overseas are believed to be monitoring his situation.

Ipswich are expected to oversee further changes to their squad during the summer transfer window as O’Neill continues preparations for the upcoming Championship campaign. The departure of Baggott will create additional room in the defensive department while allowing the club to reshape the squad to fit the new manager’s plans.

Many Supporters have responded with appreciation for the defender’s commitment throughout his time at Portman Road. Although many are disappointed to see one of the club’s academy products move on, there is widespread recognition that a fresh start could prove beneficial for both player and club.

With his Ipswich chapter now drawing to a close, attention will turn to where Baggott continues his career, with interest expected to intensify over the coming weeks as clubs look to strengthen ahead of the new season.
