“We are looking”- Robin van Persie drops ominous update on Wolves loanee Hugo Bueno ahead of summer transfer window
Wolves are in for an interesting summer – and the future of Hugo Bueno will be particularly interesting.
Hugo Bueno has been on loan at Feyenoord this season, with Wolves officials having hope he would play regularly after struggled for minutes at Molineux last term.
And Bueno has done that, making 28 appearances across all competitions.
The Spaniard has impressed and certainly, he will hope to be building on this season in 2025/26 and playing regularly again.
Bournemouth were recently credited with an interest in Bueno ahead of the summer transfer window.
But Molineux News has also been told that Bueno could be Rayan Ait-Nouri’s replacement at Wolves next season.
But there is also another possibility, given what Robin van Persie has now said.
Earlier this year, Robin van Persie became Feyenoord’s new manager, after Brian Priske was sacked for inconsistent results.
It has been a great start for him so far, with the former Arsenal and Manchester United striker winning seven of his 10 games in charge to date. He’s also drawn one and lost two.
It is a good chance for Bueno to learn from a top former Premier League player – and it seems van Persie is actually pretty keen to continue working with Bueno.
He is quoted by Voetbal International as saying: “In principle, he will go back (to Wolves).
“His deal is a bare loan deal. We are looking at the option of extending that, but you need several parties for that. We think he fits in with Feyenoord and the team culture.”
Certainly following these comments, Bueno will now be having discussions with Wolves officials about his future when he returns to Molineux this summer.
Wolves must not sanction second Hugo Bueno loan
On the face of it, loaning Bueno out again next season doesn’t feel particularly smart.
Certainly, if Rayan Ait-Nouri leaves then he cannot be allowed to leave. Bueno is perfectly primed to succeed the Algerian and would save the club millions on a replacement via the transfer market.
The money made from Ait-Nouri’s sale could then be used to strengthen other positions.
But then, even if Ait-Nouri stayed, Wolves should look to keep Bueno.
Although he’d likely want regular football, there could be potential for Ait-Nouri to play further forward next term – in Matheus Cunha’s position. Thus, freeing up the left wing-back role for Bueno.
A second loan to Feyenoord seemingly wouldn’t really help Wolves. He should either be kept or sold for pure profit.
