Oxford United Reach Agreement to Sign Rayo Vallecano Star as Medical Set for This Week

Oxford United are reportedly on the verge of completing one of the most ambitious signings in the club’s recent history after reaching an agreement with Spanish side Rayo Vallecano for experienced Ghanaian defender Abdul Mumin.

The U’s have been working behind the scenes to strengthen their squad ahead of the new Championship campaign, with newly-appointed head coach Aaron Ramsey keen to add quality, leadership and top-flight experience to his defence.

According to reports, Oxford United have now reached an agreement with Rayo Vallecano over an undisclosed transfer fee, with the deal entering its final stages.

Medical Scheduled Before Official Announcement

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Abdul Mumin is expected to travel to England this week to complete his medical before signing a long-term contract at the Kassam Stadium.

Personal terms are understood to have already been agreed, leaving only the medical and final paperwork before Oxford can officially unveil their latest summer addition.

Club officials are optimistic that the transfer will be completed without any complications.

Aaron Ramsey Lands His Defensive Target

Since taking charge of Oxford United, Aaron Ramsey has wasted little time identifying areas of his squad that require strengthening.

The former Arsenal and Wales midfielder is eager to build a side capable of competing comfortably in the Championship, and Abdul Mumin has emerged as one of his top defensive targets.

The 27-year-old enjoyed another solid campaign in La Liga, impressing with his strength, pace, aerial dominance and composure in possession. His performances attracted interest from several clubs across Europe before Oxford made their decisive move.

Should the transfer be completed, Mumin would bring valuable experience from one of Europe’s top leagues to Oxford’s back line.

Huge Statement of Intent

Landing a player with recent La Liga experience would represent one of Oxford United’s biggest transfer statements in recent years.

Supporters have been eagerly awaiting fresh arrivals following Aaron Ramsey’s appointment, and Abdul Mumin’s expected arrival would further demonstrate the club’s ambition to establish themselves as a competitive Championship side.

An official announcement is now expected once the medical has been completed and all remaining documents have been signed, with Oxford United fans hopeful that confirmation could arrive later this week.
