Aston Villa fans’ favourite player has confirmed that he will not leave the club after all the rumours surrounding his future.
Juventus have ended their pursuit of Emiliano Martinez this summer despite renewed talks with Aston Villa that had brought the two clubs closer to an agreement.
According to The Athletic, Juventus made a fresh approach for the Argentina international, with personal terms unlikely to prove an obstacle.
However, the Italian giants have now decided to explore alternative goalkeeping options, leaving Martinez’s immediate future at Villa Park unchanged.
The decision comes as Villa continue planning for the next stage of their goalkeeping department. They have agreed a deal to sign Zion Suzuki from Parma, with the Japan international expected to become their first-choice goalkeeper for the 2026-27 season.
The deal is worth an initial €30m and could rise to €35m in bonuses, with a five-year contract running until 2031.
Suzuki’s arrival is particularly significant because Villa intend to complete the move regardless of Martinez’s situation. That suggests a carefully planned succession strategy rather than a reaction to a potential late departure.
Martinez, 33, remains one of Villa’s most important players. Since joining from Arsenal in 2020, he has made 256 appearances and played a major role in the club’s recent rise.
Villa supporters will understandably welcome Juventus stepping away. Martinez brings experience, personality and leadership, particularly with Champions League football ahead.
However, Suzuki’s arrival shows Villa are also preparing for the future. For now, Martinez remains, Juventus have moved on, and Villa appear to have both experience and succession planning in place.
