BREAKING: Derby County ‘agree deal’ as transfer target completes medicals ahead of transfer deadline

Derby County have made a big move as the summer transfer window comes to a close.

Ben Brereton Diaz has passed his medical and is set to complete his move to Derby County.

That’s according to Sky Sports News who claim the Rams have agreed a deal with the Saints that will see the striker-cum-wide attacker complete a season-long loan to Pride Park.

That would address one of the glaring holes in John Eustace’s squad and also bring to the club a player who has a long history of success in the Championship.

The Chile international cost Saints £7m after buying him from Villareal last summer and he spent the second half of last season on loan at Sheffield United, whom he helped to the play-off final at Wembley.

Prior to that, having come through the ranks at Nottingham Forest, the 26-year-old made his name at Blackburn Rovers. In all he has scored 57 second tier goals.

While he can play through the middle as a central striker, Brereton Diaz has done his best work coming off the left on to his right foot.

He can play on both flanks with Derby having chased a winger this window as a result of Corey Blackett-Taylor’s hamstring injury which looks set to keep him out for two to three weeks.
