Frank Lampard was crestfallen after Coventry were beaten by Sunderland with the very last kick of the game.
Coventry could lose Milan van Ewijk amongst plenty of other stars this summer, with the Sky Blues likely to be subjected to several offers from clubs for their best players.
As well as Van Ewijk, there is every chance that striker Haji Wright departs in the summer.
Wright has been linked with a move away from the Coventry Building Society Arena and should he leave, there’s a perfect chance to bring someone back to where it all began.
Coventry City should bring Callum Wilson home
Callum Wilson looks set to leave Newcastle United in the summer and will therefore be available on a free transfer.
The 33-year-old has been a prolific goal scorer for large swathes of his career and now coming to the end, may be looking for a move closer to home.
Well, look no further than Coventry.
Wilson was born in the city and began his career with the club and went on to score 23 goals in 55 games before earning a big move to Bournemouth in July 2014.
Injuries have plagued his career but when fit, has been reliable in front of goal and even as a short-term option, would offer a lot to Coventry.
Coupled with the emotional attachment of returning to the Midlands, it’s a move that would give everyone a buzz and reignite the excitement heading into the new season.
How does Callum Wilson’s Coventry record compare to Haji Wright’s?
There isn’t a lot to compare the two players in terms of their goal record, and even assists.
Wright has played more games and scored more goals, but Wilson has a better goals-to-game record compared to the American.
Whether Wilson would be able to hit those same heights he did in his first spell between 2009-2014 would be another question but sometimes, the romance of a return home may be more than enough to persuade Lampard to sanction the move.
