Derby County are interested in signing John Terry’s Regen as his deal winds down at Blackburn Rovers, according to the Lancashire Telegraph.
Derby County boss and former Blackburn Rovers manager John Eustace signed Danny Batth to the Lancashire club in August 2024, agreeing a one-year deal. And now, a DCFC reunion is eyed.
Rovers have offered the defender a new deal, however, his services are also wanted elsewhere, with Eustace keen on taking him to Pride Park.
Eustace left Rovers to join the Rams back in January, and since then he managed to guide the club to safety, securing their spot in the Championship on the final day of the season.
Derby County are now preparing for next season, with Eustace looking to make a number of signings to the squad.
34-year-old Batth made 37 appearances in the Championship last season, scoring twice, with the Lancashire club missing out on play-offs by two points. They struggled to find form after Eustace’s exit and their late surge under Valerien Ismael proved too little too late.
The Lancashire Telegraph‘s report also reiterated recent claims of DCFC interest in Andi Weimann, who has also been offered a new deal by Blackburn Rovers. The club are confident of keeping both, it is said.
Batth’s experience
Batth has played in the EFL now for 16 years, spending nine years at Wolverhampton Wanderers, before spells at Stoke, Sunderland, Norwich City and most recently Blackburn.
In 2018, the Derby County target helped guide Wolves to the Championship title and promotion to the Premier League before he departed the club.
Throughout his career, Batth has made 353 Championship appearances, with 126 made in League One too. That experience will be important to Eustace at DCFC.
Since joining the Rams, the boss has said signed free agents Erik Pieters, Jeff Hendrick and Kemar Roofe. It shows how he values such figures, even if they were short-term signings who are due to depart.
The Derby County rebuild continues
Following Derby County’s takeover by David Clowes in 2022, the club has been on course to return to their former status in the Championship. Their promotion from League One under Paul Warne was a big step in this goal, but there is now the aim to sustain their place in the second tier.
Eustace managed to help keep the Rams in the Championship in the 2024/25 season but will now be looking at improving their squad to avoid getting drawn into another relegation battle next year.
DCFC have already offered new contracts to Craig Forsyth and Liam Thompson, and are interested in the permanent signing Nathaniel Phillips, who spent last season on loan at the club from Liverpool.
