BREAKING: Newcastle United have tabled a huge offer for Coventry City star
Coventry City are preparing for another season of Championship football after coming up short in the play-offs.
The Sky Blues lost to Sunderland in dramatic circumstances in their semi-final second leg and their focus now turns to an important summer window while the Black Cats take on Sheffield United at Wembley on Saturday afternoon.
Ambitious recruitment has been key to City’s rise towards the top end of the Championship table but in recent years, they’ve also seen some big assets move for sizeable fees. Now, one of their star men in the form of Jack Rudoni is drawing high profile interest.
The Daily Mail reports that Newcastle United have scouted Coventry City attacking midfielder Rudoni as they line up potential transfer targets for the summer window.
The Magpies are set to have far more financial freedom this summer with PSR challenges easing and it could be that Rudoni is someone they eye a swoop for.
The 23-year-old midfielder is currently under contract with the Sky Blues until the summer of 2028. He signed a four-year contract with the club upon arrival from Huddersfield Town last summer.
Rudoni perhaps didn’t get off to the best of starts at Coventry City as he settled into the ways of Mark Robins but form came for the midfielder and he found a new level under the lead of Frank Lampard.
Overall, the former AFC Wimbledon ace managed 10 goals and 13 assists in 50 games across all competitions for the club. Nine goals and 12 assists came in the regular Championship season, a tally few other players can match.
He was used on the left of a midfield three as well as in his usual attacking midfield role where he found most of his success.
Other Coventry City assets to be sold?
The impressive recruitment of Coventry City means they have had players attract their fair share of interest in recent times. As Newcastle United eye Rudoni, perhaps a similar summer lays ahead.
However, the Sky Blues only signed him for a fairly sizeable fee last summer, and important assets don’t tend to move on for the club too quickly. They seem to favour fending off interest to develop them further and make bigger profits further down the line.
And, with other key players more likely to eye moves to a higher level, it might be that Rudoni stays put.
The likes of Milan van Ewijk and Haji Wright could feasibly daw higher league interest and head for pastures new after the failure to win promotion.
