REPORT: Wolves transfer news: Nuremberg midfielder attracting interest, club takes “very clear stance”
Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly considering whether to push for the signing of Nuremberg midfielder Caspar Jander.
The West Midlands outfit concluded their 2024-25 campaign on Sunday with a 1-1 draw against Brentford, securing 16th position in the Premier League table in the process
Focus now turns to the transfer market where Wolves are expected to be busy, it already apparent that Matheus Cunha will likely leave for Manchester United in a £62.5m deal.
More important players may also depart Molineux, while there is the likelihood of a mass exodus of players who do not fit Vitor Pereira’s system or have dropped down the pecking order.
According to BILD, Wolves are giving consideration to adding Jander to their senior ranks once the market reopens in June.
Who is Casper Jander?
The 22-year-old is yet to feature in the Bundesliga, but he has just impressed in the second tier of German football, helping Nuremberg to 10th position.
A total of three goals and nine assists came from his 32 appearances, while he also played the full 90 minutes in a 2-1 defeat at Hoffenheim in the DFB Pokal.
Jander has experience being deployed anywhere in the engine room, a trait that is seemingly valued by Nuremberg with sporting director Joti Chatzialexiou seemingly of the opinion that it will be difficult for a suitor to sign him this summer.
As relayed by the same outlet, Chatzialexiou said: “There are people who are simply interested in the player. I would be too, if I were a level higher.
“But I have a very clear stance on this and know that at a certain point we’ll enter into talks.”
Nuremberg will allegedly not consider a sale unless they receive an offer in the region of €20m (£16.79m), it unclear whether any admirer would be prepared to go that high.
What other clubs are interested?
The report suggests that Brentford are another Premier League team who hold an interest in entering the race for Jander, who has a contract until 2028.
Bundesliga trio Bayer Leverkusen, Freiburg, Stuttgart and Belgian side Club Brugge are also said to be monitoring the situation.
Jander had been playing third-tier football for MSV Duisberg prior to signing for Nuremberg last summer.
