Birmingham City set for major transfer spree as five key positions targeted for Premier League promotion push
EFL Analysis have gained an insight into Birmingham City’s 2025 summer transfer window plans.
Birmingham City will ply their trade in the Championship once more in the 2025/26 season.
The Blues completely dominated League One this past year, earning a new EFL record for most points secured in a single campaign (111).
Birmingham spent well in 2024/25, including breaking the League One transfer record for Jay Stansfield.
Now, we have learned that the Midlands outfit are expected to go big once more when the 2025 summer window opens up.
Birmingham City targeting five positions
Speaking exclusively to EFL Analysis, transfer expert Graeme Bailey has shared the key areas Birmingham will look at as they eye another promotion.
He said: “They’re going to be one of the big spenders. The EFL probably won’t like what they’re about to do, but they probably won’t see them again for 20 years after next season [because they’ll get promoted].”
“Birmingham hope the EFL will be in their rearview mirror along with any potential financial penalties that could come their way on the back of this summer, because they are going to be one of the top five spenders easily in this division.
“And when we talk about Wrexham spending, Birmingham are going to be a different level to them. Birmingham are going to be up there, but there is a lot of work to do. From what I’m told, a good half of that first team need replacing to make them promotion-calibre – but that helps, because those players who drop out just help form a stronger squad for that division.
“They want a right back, at least one midfielder. They want another striker, wide men, and a goalkeeper as well.”

The window isn’t open yet, but one Birmingham signing is already confirmed thanks to a pre-contract agreement.
