Daniel Farke is about to waste Leeds United money on £110,000-a-week striker
Leeds United have set their sights on a new striker signing but for Daniel Farke, he might have a better option already in his ranks.
Leeds United are already hard at work on potential summer signings following their promotion to the Premier League under Daniel Farke.
The list of Leeds United summer transfer targets seems to be growing every day and it’s a good omen with the summer transfer window officials opening on June 1st.
And Farke looks set to raid the Premier League for some quality players this summer with names like Sean Longstaff linked with a move to Leeds United.
And his Newcastle United teammate Callum Wilson has also been mentioned alongside a possible move to Elland Road, as he has been for some time now.
The 33-year-old is out of contract this summer. Eddie Howe’s side have the option to extend his stay but are tipped to release the former Bournemouth man.
Leeds United making a move to sign Callum Wilson
Wilson was linked with Leeds United earlier in the year. Leeds were linked with any and every striker at the start of the year but Wilson was one of the several who remained at their current clubs.
But links to West Yorkshire have been reignited. It was reported on Friday that Leeds United are interested in signing Wilson this summer in a bid to bolster their striker department ahead of their return to the Premier League.
For many though, this link might not make a lot of sense. Wilson has a pretty terrible injury record and he’s a high-earning player too, who’s unlikely to take that drastic a pay cut to join Leeds when he’s also had ongoing links to Saudi Arabia.
Why Leeds United should avoid Callum Wilson and stick with Patrick Bamford
Strikers are no doubt a must for Farke this summer. But signing Wilson seems a bit pointless when they have Patrick Bamford already in the ranks as a back up striker to Joel Piroe.
Bamford is the club’s highest-paid player on £40,000-a-week, not including the Leeds United players’ pay rise following promotion. Per Salary Sport, Wilson earns a staggering £110,000-a-week at St James’ Park.
And whilst he boasts a solid record at Premier League level in terms of goals, he’s made just 36 Premier League appearances in the last two seasons combined due to injury, scoring nine goals.
Bamford actually boasts a decent record in the top flight too. And Bamford says he’s better-suited to the Premier League anyway, which there is evidence to suggest he might be.
For Farke, spending so much a week on Wilson, who’d likely sign on a one or maybe two-year deal, seems pointless when they already have Bamford who can do the same job and can arguably be available more so than Wilson.
Instead, Farke should go out and sign a younger striker with the potential to see his market value shoot up in years to come.
