EXCLUSIVE: Derby County in Dreamland as Weimann and Batth Respond to Shock Transfer Approach!
John Eustace is reportedly eyeing up a reunion with players who he had during his time at Blackburn Rovers
Former English Football League (EFL) footballer Don Goodman has weighed in on Derby County’s reported ‘raid’ of Blackburn Rovers this summer.
Rumours of John Eustace reuniting with some of his former stars at Ewood Park have been circulating ever since he replaced Paul Warne back in February.
And now weeks after cementing Derby’s place in the Sky Bet Championship next season — and just days away from the summer transfer window opening — these reports are now even more rife.
The Rams have been tipped for a double swoop of both Andreas Weimann and Danny Batth on free transfers, with claims Eustace is keen to bring both players, who he signed for Rovers a year ago, to the East Midlands.
Goodman told Football League World: “I think the Derby County recruitment is going to be absolutely fascinating this summer.
“I know Andy Weimann and Danny Batth are two players that John Eustace knows well from his time at Blackburn Rovers.
“I guess really you’d have to ask yourself if you’re a Derby County fan, with respect to those two players who are well in their 30s, would they be signings that excite you?
“I’m not totally sure, to be honest. If their remit is to survive in the Championship again next season, then they’d be decent signings.
“If their remit is to be progressing, then I’m not so sure about that.”
Weimann is already well acquainted with Pride Park having spent three years at the club, between 2015 and 2018, when he scored nine goals in 88 games across all competitions.
Last season, however, the 33-year-old forward netted seven times and provided two assists in 30 Sky Bet Championship games as Rovers finished just two points outside of the play-off places.
While Batth would definitely offer this Derby team a shed load of experience at the back, with the centre-half being an ever-present under both Eustace and current Blackburn manager Valerien Ismael, racking up 37 appearances.
