Ipswich Town: Conor Chaplin’s message to fans after relegation
Ipswich Town star Conor Chaplin says the Blues need their fans to ‘stick with us’ as they prepare to launch a promotion push in next season’s Championship.
Town are heading straight back to the second tier after a remarkable two straight promotions, having come up short in the world’s best league.
But their fans have been superb all season, with the players keen to show how much they’ve enjoyed the support on Sunday’s lap of appreciation following their season-ending 3-1 defeat to West Ham.
“I think it’s important from our side to show appreciation to the fans,” Chaplin insisted. “I think the last two or three years speak for themselves.
“It’s easy to be a fan when you’re coming off the past two years, but to be how they have been all season when we’ve not won a lot of games, to keep coming in their numbers, to keep making a lot of noise, I think they have been a credit to the football club.
“I think they have been an incredible part of making this journey as enjoyable as it can be, even though we haven’t won as many games.
“That was a big part of the motivation today. We really, really wanted to get a win for the fans to go off in the summer with.
“That’s probably the biggest disappointment from today, from my part, because I feel like they have been incredible all season.”
While Town were huge underdogs in the Premier League, that all changes next season – the Blues are already the betting favourites to win the 2025/26
And Chaplin said it’s important everyone associated with the club stays positive and united as a new challenge awaits.
“We need them to stick with us, understand that next season is a different challenge and keep a positive spin on everything,” he stressed.
“This club is in a much better than it was 12 months ago – a relegation doesn’t change that. The club is on an upward trajectory, for sure.
“To bridge the gap, the fans are going to help us massively, for sure.”
