Wolves secured a sixth Premier League win in a row on Saturday afternoon as they saw off already relegated Leicester City.
Despite Matheus Cunha being close to joining Manchester United, the Brazilian played like someone who still had everything to give for Wolves by scoring once and assisting twice.
Cunha helped Wolves win 3-0 against Leicester City, securing three points that moved them up to 13th in the table.
Vitor Pereira has predicted ‘big things’ to come from his players, who were magnificent once more at Molineux, as Wolves did the league double over Leicester.
But, it wasn’t just his stars on the pitch who played a role in winning three points, as Pereira praised fourth-choice goalkeeper Tom King for what he said before the game.
Tom King gives Wolves team talk before Leicester City win
King has never made an appearance for Wolves since joining on a free transfer from Northampton Town in 2023.
The Welshman was essentially signed as emergency back-up, perhaps knowing his game time would be limited at Molineux.
While that would deter most players from giving it their all, King is still an important member of the dressing room, and before the win over Leicester, Pereira revealed it was the 30-year-old who gave the team talk.
“Do you know who spoke with the players before the game today? King – and he spoke better than me, with passion,” Pereira said via the E&S.
“This is spirit, someone who hasn’t played a game, but he goes there and spoke to his team-mates with energy and with words that even I can’t find.”
King offered some words of wisdom ahead of the clash that even Pereira couldn’t find, and that embodies the team spirit he’s created in Wolverhampton.
King on the value he adds to the Wolves squad
Similarly to when Conor Coady was called up to the England squad under Gareth Southgate, and Pep Guardiola signed Scott Carson for Manchester City, King offers immense value off the pitch like the aforementioned examples.
He’s able to have a laugh with his teammates and keep spirits high. Not only that, but the goalkeeper has said he’s only one of the ‘top worker’s’ in the squad, as he explained during an interview with Wolves in February 2024.
“Anyone who watches training will be able to hear my voice – I try and get as much out of every day as I possibly can and I do that in my own special way, as some of the lads will tell you,” King said.
“I try and get a good laugh, I try and get the spirits high, but also when it’s time to work I feel I’m one of the top workers, which obviously the club have noticed, and they feel is what embodies the spirit of playing for Wolves and being part of the club.
“My game time might be limited, but there’s so many other ways I can add value to the team and to the squad in general.”
