“I don’t care about Cunha”- Victor Pereira hails £15M Wolves player who is becoming the leader of the team

Vitor Pereira was full of praise for one Wolves player in particular after he shone in the final day draw with Brentford.

Wolves managed to stop their losing run at Molineux on Sunday, sharing the spoils with the Bees.

The game finished 1-1, with Marshall Munetsi’s stunning strike earning the hosts a point.

Munetsi has come in for a fair bit of criticism in recent weeks for not having much of an impact, so it was certainly a very satisfying moment for him.

Wolves played well in the game and did knock the ball around well at times.

It would have been a shame to finish the season with four defeats in a row, but thankfully that outcome was avoided – and one player who was key yesterday was Joao Gomes.

Vitor Pereira hails Joao Gomes after Wolves’ draw with Brentford

Joao Gomes has become a hugely popular figure at Wolves since his arrival at the club in January 2023.

The Brazilian is admired for his tenacity and character, and the fact he always gives his all for the badge.

Against Brentford, Gomes was everywhere, with data indicating he made eight tackles – easily the most of any player in the game.

He also contested an incredible 25 duels, winning 16 of them. Again, this was easily the most of any player.

Gomes’ performance led to some high praise afterwards from Pereira, who believes the Brazilian has now emerged as the leader of the team.

He said: “He’s the leader of the team when he’s playing like this. I think it’s difficult for us to lose and he makes the supporters fall in love with him.

“He always reminds you of the ‘Joga Bonito’ from Brazil, so I think he’s someone that is really special. We also enjoy watching him when we’re playing with him on the pitch.”

Joao Gomes contract extension already looking huge for Wolves

Gomes was fantastic against Brentford, and it was the kind of performance that has likely encouraged fans to vote him as the Supporters’ Player of the Season.

Gomes signing a contract extension with Wolves earlier this year was big news at the time.

But the performances he’s put in since signing that new deal have been wonderful, and it is such a boost he will not be leaving the club this summer

Perhaps he could be someone who leaves in the summer of 2026.

But Gomes loves Wolves and the fans, so many will hope he stays for as long as possible.
