What Matheus Cunha said in his speech to Wolves teammates at Compton after being voted Players’ Player of the Season
Matheus Cunha will likely be making his final appearance for Wolves today against Brentford.
Earlier this week, speculation increased about Cunha and his proposed move to Manchester United, and it is now a question of when, rather than if.
Despite United losing the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur, the Red Devils are who he wants to join this summer.
The very public nature of Cunha’s move to United has left a lot of Wolves fans frustrated in 2025.
At times, it has been a real distraction, and some were particularly annoyed when it was happening during Wolves’ six-game winning run, as it detracted from the team’s achievements.
But it will be all over very soon, and Cunha will depart Wolves.
His move comes after another fine campaign for Wanderers, although he had controversial moments.
But his efforts have seen him scoop the Players’ Player of the Season award – and yesterday Wolves released a video clip of the speech he gave at Compton Park.

Cunha probably has been Wolves’ best or most influential player, and without his contributions, the team would have been in real trouble.
But the fact he served two bans and has also been linked so heavily with United hasn’t gone down too well.
The recent interview Cunha did where he said he wanted to win trophies also irked many supporters.
He ended up missing out on Supporters’ Player of the Season, which has gone to Joao Gomes.
But Cunha – who Vitor Pereira benched in midweek against Crystal Palace – still won Players’ Player, and earlier this week he was presented with his award in front of the those that voted for him.
He told his teammates at Compton Park: “Such a pleasure. (It was) hard. But in the end we did the job.
“We did what we needed to do and I think everyone showed their quality.
“We can do many more things, I believe in you guys, thank you very much.”
Cunha posts on Instagram after Players’ Player of the Season win
Cunha also took to Instagram to mark his Players’ Player of the Season win.
The Brazilian said: “Thanks for this award player of the season. ❤️🔥 No words to say how happy I was this season with all of you. 🐺
“Thank you, my colleagues, for being a family in the difficult times and in the wonderful times we spent together. This season will have a different place in my heart.
“Grateful to God for everything.”
In the comments, midfielder Andre replied by saying ‘The best’, and Jorgen Strand Larsen said ‘Toppppp’.
While he’s become a divisive figure at Molineux in recent months, it would perhaps have been very harsh for him to finish the season with one award.
