Sometimes newly promoted clubs tend to aim big in the transfer market to stand a chance in the Premier League. Leeds United are no strangers to this, as back in 2020 they had a very interesting summer window.
The Whites splashed the cash and brought in the likes of Raphinha, Robin Koch, Diego Llorente and Rodrigo Moreno. All these signings were first choice players at different clubs in Europe’s top five leagues. But Leeds convinced them to sign, mainly because of Premier League football. Raphinha joined from Rennes in Ligue 1, Robin Koch came from the Bundesliga, Llorente and Rodrigo both came from La Liga sides.
Leeds spent £108million in their summer transfer window, and it ended up paying off big time. Marcelo Bielsa guided the team to a top half finish as they comfortably survived relegation.

Illan Meslier was benched down the stretch when Leeds were chasing automatic promotion. Since then Karl Darlow has been in goal, and the club have won four games straight to secure their place in the Premier League. Now, Meslier’s future is up in the air, and with Leeds in the market for a new goalkeeper, it could lead to his departure from Elland Road. Norwich City keeper Angus Gunn is the latest name linked with a move to West Yorkshire.
TEAMtalk has revealed that Daniel Farke has set his sights on Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic. The keeper is currently out on loan at Strasbourg where he is having an amazing season. Leeds are seriously considering a move for the Serbian, but they will not be the only club in the race. Kicker reports that Bayer Leverkusen are also serious suitors for the 25-year old.

A goalkeeper is a necessary signing ahead of next season. Quality shot stoppers could sometimes be the difference between safety and relegation. Getting a quality keeper like Petrovic immediately boosts the club’s chances of survival
But with the calibre of clubs mentioned as being part of the race, Leeds would be better off finding an alternative.
