“This is miserable”- Jamie Vardy delivers brutal verdict on Leicester City relegation, it’s been a ‘total embarrassment’
An absolutely shocking season for Leicester City is almost over, and relegation to the Championship has now been confirmed, leaving Jamie Vardy positively fuming.
Vardy has been through thick and thin with Leicester, from winning the Premier League title and FA Cup, to the rollercoaster past couple of years that has seen the Foxes go down, back up, and back down again.
They are now confirmed to be part of the Championship in 2025/26 after defeat to Liverpool this weekend, but in truth, that’s a fate that has been a long time coming.
Fans are worried about Leicester’s future, with plenty of problems on and off the pitch to resolve before they can even think about returning to the top flight.
Jamie Vardy reflects on a ‘miserable’ season
Now, Jamie Vardy has joined the party, but it’s not a fun one to be at. The striker has condemned the way the season has gone for his club, and admitted it has been nowhere near good enough for him, the club, or the fans.
He took to Twitter/X to write: “At this point I don’t even know what to say. No words I have can ever express my feelings of anger and sadness with the way this season has gone. There are no excuses.
“Collectively, as players and as a club, we failed. There is simply no hiding, and I refuse to entertain any suggestion of doing so.
“Having been at this club for so long, we’ve experienced so many highs and successes – and this season has been nothing but miserable and for me personally, a total embarrassment. It hurts, and I know you’re feeling it too.”
Vardy concluded his message with an apology to the fans, adding: “To the fans, I’m sorry. Sorry we haven’t performed, and sorry we end the 2025 season with such a s— show.”
Strong words, but you cannot fault Vardy for his honesty, and you can’t say he’s wrong at all. The season has been a very, very poor one for the Foxes, and is such a massive fall from grace for the former Premier League champions.
Still, it’s not all entirely Leicester’s fault, but more an inherent issue within the EFL, as the gap between the Premier League and the Championship continues to widen.
Should Jamie Vardy stay with Leicester City or move on?
It will be a big summer for Leicester, though maybe not a very pretty one. We can expect plenty of players to move on, and Ruud van Nistelrooy is also set to depart.
Vardy’s contract is due to expire in June, too, and there’s every chance the club hero could finally leave after 13 years at the King Power Stadium.
In many ways, it makes sense for him to find a new lease of life elsewhere. He’s not got long left in the game, and to be honest, he deserves better than pulling Leicester out of the mire once again.
Even at 38-years-old, we’re sure Vardy would have plenty of offers this summer. Perhaps a return to his boyhood club, Sheffield Wednesday? Or, maybe he would fancy one last dance in the spotlight with Wrexham, if they go up?
