Leeds United are in front seat to sign “exceptional” £30M League winner as Skysport update drops
Leeds United are interested in signing Caoimhin Kelleher from Liverpool to strengthen their goalkeeping department this summer.
With Paraag Marathe publicly extending his support towards Daniel Farke amid speculation about his future, all eyes are now on the summer transfer window, as Leeds prepare for life back in the Premier League.
It has now emerged that Farke will have a £150million transfer kitty this summer to prepare his squad for the increasing competition in the top flight.
There appears to be a focus on signing players with Premier League experience, with Everton frontman Beto among those linked with a move to LS11.
Leeds are also poised to use a significant chunk of their budget on a new first-choice goalkeeper after Illan Meslier fell down the pecking order this season.
Leeds make approach to sign Kelleher
It has been claimed that Leeds will set aside £30m to rope in a new first-choice goalkeeper this summer.
The Peacocks have already been linked with a few shot-stoppers in that price range, including Aaron Ramsdale and Kelleher.
Kelleher has been linked with a move to Elland Road for quite a while, with Paul Robinson claiming in December that he would be a ‘perfect fit’ for the Peacocks [Football Insider].
It has now emerged that Leeds have already made enquiries about signing the Republic of Ireland international.
Graeme Bailey has told Leeds United News (8 May) that the West Yorkshire outfit are keen on the 26-year-old’s services as he looks set to depart Liverpool this summer.
The transfer journalist revealed that Kelleher is on his way out of Anfield, with Giorgi Mamardashvili set to join the Reds ahead of next season.
Newcastle, West Ham, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest have all been linked with a move for the Irishman, but Leeds have already enquired about signing him.
Kelleher perfect fit at Elland Road
Kelleher has been stuck playing second fiddle to Alisson at Liverpool, but has impressed whenever he has stepped in for the Brazilian.
The goalkeeper has played an important role in the Reds’ road to Premier League glory this season, keeping four clean sheets in his 10 league appearances.
Even though Alisson is set to turn 33 this year, the Anfield outfit do not plan to make Kelleher their first-choice goalkeeper, meaning he is likely to move away this summer.
With a significant amount of Premier League and Champions League experience under his belt, he could be an ideal goalkeeper for Leeds.
