Ipswich Town’s 3-0 loss to Newcastle United confirmed their relegation to the Championship – and the ramifications are already being felt among the squad.
Ipswich’s stay in the Premier League came to an end after they were beaten 3-0 by Newcastle at St James’ Park.
The Tractor Boys return to the Championship after just one season in the top-flight while Newcastle moved into third to remain firmly in the hunt for a Champions League place.
After 24 years away, the Tractor Boys, led by manager Kieran McKenna, earned a spot back in the Premier League.
But this term, after a poor campaign, they made the drop at the first time of asking.
This means that Jens Cajuste is set to rejoin Napoli in the summer when the season ends, reports Arena Napoli.
The midfielder, who featured in 29 games in all competitions, made the move on loan to Ipswich during the last summer window for €1.5 million, in a deal that would become permanent if they remained in the top division of English football.
Had they stayed up, a clause would have activated, which would see €12m going to Napoli and Cajuste remaining with Ipswich on a permanent basis.
Of course, as the report goes on to say, “Ipswich could still decide to keep him if they were interested in buying him”, though whether he would be keen on staying is another matter.
The 25-year-old Swede will be put up for sale by sporting director Giovanni Manna who will “try to place him elsewhere, evaluating the offers of the clubs that follow him with interest.”
