Derby County plot move for relegated EFL midfielder who once compared himself to Rodri
Derby County are looking to sign one relegated League One star ahead of the 2025/26 season.
With survival in the Championship confirmed for Derby County, plans ahead of the 2025/26 campaign are already underway for John Eustace.
Championship survival was financially crucial for Derby County, who will likely have some cash to spend this summer as they look to further consolidate their spot in what promises to be a very challenging and competitive season.
Understandably, midfielders are already being lined up as potential signings for the Rams due to their being a hole left because of the departed David Ozoh, who has returned to Crystal Palace after his loan spell.
One man whom the Rams have targeted has just suffered relegation, but there is still plenty of promise from the midfielder, who models himself off one Ballon d’Or winner.

Derby County make move for Bristol Rovers star Kamil Conteh
According to a report from Football League World, Derby County are lining up a swoop for Bristol Rovers midfielder Kamil Conteh, whose future with the Gasheads is uncertain after relegation to League Two.
The Rams will face competition from Plymouth Argyle, but Derby’s place in the Championship could give them the edge in the race for Conteh.
Unfortunately for the 22-year-old, he has suffered an injury-ridden 2024/25 campaign, which saw him miss plenty of action, but his return is expected in the upcoming pre-season.
Derby fans will get excited by Kamil Conteh comparison to Ballon d’Or winner Rodri
Speaking earlier this season to Bristol Live, Conteh spoke about his career ambitions and also which players he looks up to, and it saw him briefly mention Manchester City star Rodri.
“I’d say personally, I’m doing all the right things in terms of in and out of possession. Tactically, technically. I just think now it’s just goals and assists [to add]. I think everything else in terms of how I train, how I play, I’m more happy.
“Like you saw with the Ballon d’Or with Rodri, if he can do it, as someone in my position, it’s something I strive for every day.”
With such ambitions, there is no doubt that Conteh would turn down a move to the Championship, which would significantly boost his own career.
If the youngster’s ambition is matched on the grass, there is no doubt he could be a shrewd signing for the Rams.
