Shock Matheus Cunha U-Turn! Manchester United Plot Stunning Move as Wolves Talks Take Dramatic Twist

Manchester United Set to Finalise Matheus Cunha Transfer After Breakthrough in Payment Structure Dispute

Manchester United are poised to complete the high-profile transfer of Wolves forward Matheus Cunha, following a significant breakthrough in negotiations over the structure of the £62.5 million transfer fee.

United had long been monitoring the Brazilian international, who enjoyed a standout campaign at Molineux last season, netting 15 goals across all competitions. The 26-year-old has been one of Wolves’ brightest sparks and attracted interest from several top clubs, but it was the Red Devils who made the decisive move by triggering the release clause in Cunha’s contract.

Despite notifying Wolves of their intent to meet the clause, negotiations became strained over how the fee would be paid. Manchester United initially proposed spreading the £62.5 million fee over five annual instalments, a structure more aligned with their long-term financial planning.

However, Wolves stood firm, insisting that the clause was explicit in stating that any club triggering it must complete the payment within two years, divided into three separate instalments. The Midlands club remained adamant that their star striker would not be sold on terms that deviated from the clause – especially not at a discount or with an extended payment period that would impact their own transfer planning.

After several days of intense back-and-forth discussions, both clubs finally reached a compromise late last night. United have now agreed to meet the original payment terms, bringing an end to the impasse and paving the way for Cunha to undergo a medical and finalise personal terms with the club.

Cunha, who became a fan favourite at Molineux due to his flair, passion, and work rate, took to Instagram to reflect on what may have been his final season with the club. In an emotional message, he expressed deep gratitude to Wolves supporters and his teammates for an unforgettable year.

> “Wolves, what can I say to you? What an incredible season. We didn’t get to where you deserve to be, but we did everything we could to make you proud. I love these guys,” he wrote.

> “Individually, it was the best season of my life. All of this was only possible because of all the dedication and love I have for this club. I became the Brazilian with the most goals in a Premier League season, along with @roberto_firmino and @gabriel.martinelli.”

> “I made mistakes and got things right, but always because I lived this club so much. All I ever wanted was to do the impossible for Wolves. Another one is over. And thank you all for all the affection.”

Cunha’s achievements this season, including equalling the record for the most goals scored by a Brazilian in a Premier League campaign, have further elevated his profile and justified United’s pursuit of his signature. His blend of speed, creativity, and goal-scoring ability makes him an ideal addition to Erik ten Hag’s attacking options as the club looks to bolster its squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.

An official announcement from Manchester United is expected in the coming days, pending the completion of the final administrative steps and the player’s medical examination.
