Shock Move? EFL Club Launches Bold Bid to Snatch Ipswich Star in Summer Transfer Twist!

As Ipswich Town prepare for life in the Championship, EFL Analysis can exclusively reveal that one of Kieran McKenna’s key men is being eyed up by a League Two club.

Ipswich put up a brave fight in the Premier League this season, but a drastic dip in form in the back end of the campaign has seen them relegated and on track to finish 19th.

Top players like Liam Delap are now likely to depart in the summer, leaving Kieran McKenna with a rebuilding job on his hands ahead of their return to the Championship.

But, there’s one man who isn’t likely to abandon ship just yet, as EFL Analysis exclusively reveals what the future holds for McKenna’s right-hand man, Lee Grant.

Lee Grant is wanted by Newport County

Thanks to information from our Chief Football Correspondent Graeme Bailey, EFL Analysis understands that first-team coach Lee Grant is attracting the attention of a number of EFL clubs this summer.

Among them, we can exclusively reveal that League Two outfit Newport County are keen on Grant, with a view to making him their new head coach. Newport have been without a manager since parting ways with Nelson Jardim during the season.

Grant, who has been a part of McKenna’s team since retiring from playing in 2022, is “on the radar” of Newport chief Huw Jenkins, who has “ambitious plans” to take the club forward.

Jenkins, who formerly worked with Swansea City, will have a tough job luring Grant away from Portman Road, though. Grant is held in high regard at Ipswich, and is thought to be unlikely to leave this year.

What does the summer hold for Ipswich Town?

As things stand, there is no reason to believe Kieran McKenna is going anywhere, and he will possess one of the strongest squads in the Championship for 2025/26.

The summer transfer window will, as we mentioned, very likely see Delap leave the club. To replace him, we’re told Ipswich are keen on Lawrence Shankland, with the Scottish striker available on a free transfer.

Even more exciting is the fact Ipswich are in the hunt for Richard Kone. The prolific League One striker missed out on promotion with Wycombe Wanderers this year, but is still likely to end up in the Championship.

With players coming and going, and parachute payments to help them in the market, Ipswich are sure to be a force next season.
