Matheus Cunha’s former teammate exposes what the Wolves star is really like behind the scenes
Matheus Cunha’s time at Wolves is almost up, as the Brazilian nears a transfer to Manchester United.
Cunha bid farewell to Molineux on the final game of the 2024/25 season, preparing himself for a new challenge at Old Trafford.
It’s understood that Man United will pay Cunha’s £62.5m release clause to sign the forward, with a disagreement on payment instalments set to be amended.

Though the 26-year-old’s impact in the West Midlands is unquestionable, Cunha still managed to land himself in hot water with Wolves fans during his final campaign at the club.
Aside from announcing his desire to seal a summer transfer during a relegation battle, Cunha’s discipline over the season was often spoken about, as Vitor Pereira’s maverick collected two FA bans.
To some, the Brazilian is merely a passionate sportsman who plays with his heart on his sleeve, but to others, the former Atletico Madrid ace causes alarm bells to ring.
Arsenal were wary of Cunha’s disciplinary record and turned their back on a possible transfer, telling all that needs to be known about the work he needs to do to conduct himself better.
Such might not be possible, as the zealous Wolves superstar has always had a bit of fire about him, as two of his former teammates revealed to The Athletic.
Thalisson, Cunha’s former teammate at Coritiba, told the English outlet that his compatriot’s desire to win would sometimes land him in an argument.
“He had a very strong personality and was extremely competitive. Even away from football, playing any kind of game, he always wanted to win and would get into arguments.
“He was the joker of the group, the guy making everyone laugh. He made fun of everyone, and he could take it when we made fun of him in return. He was great fun to be around.”
Another one of Cunha’s former teammates at Coritiba, Luiz Henrique, had the same assessment, admitting that sometimes, the Wolves ace would be ‘a bit much’.
“Off the pitch, he was a joker. Sometimes it was a bit much, and we would have to tell him to knock it off.”
The attacker’s passion for joking around fused with his fierce competitive streak is still evident today, making him somewhat of a lovable rogue at Wolves, and soon to be Man United.
Cunha’s departure is only a matter of time
The idea of Cunha leaving Wolves in the summer has been fact rather than opinion for some time.
In January, the Old Gold protected their star player with a £62.5m release clause, setting the bar high for clubs that were interested in his services.
Man United are closing in on signing the 26-year-old, who is in line to join Ruben Amorim’s project at Old Trafford.
Having contributed to 48 goals in 92 appearances for Wolves, Cunha will leave with his head held high as a player who will be forever remembered for his time at Molineux.
