Wolves are now a team to be feared in front of goal, but reports suggest they could add to their firepower in the summer transfer window.
Vitor Pereira is preparing for the impending departure of Matheus Cunha, who is closing in on a move to Manchester United.
Cunha may have annoyed supporters with how he’s pushed for an exit from Molineux, even before the campaign ends, but the 25-year-old is still supremely important to the squad.
The Brazilian has plundered 17 goals in all competitions, becoming their top scorer for the second season running, while earning his chance to play in Europe’s elite competition.
Wolves are already planning to replace his output amid links to Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott. Meanwhile, Pereira is also looking at a striker to rival Jorgen Strand Larsen.
Wolves want to sign Deportivo Alaves striker Joaquin Panichelli
Wolves signed Strand Larsen on loan from Celta Vigo last summer, with his transfer set to become permanent in June.
The towering Norwegian has been an incredible asset for the Wanderers, returning an impressive 13 goals in his debut campaign.
In the loss to Manchester City, Strand Larsen was injured, leaving Cunha forced to play up front on his own, with no other forward similar to the 25-year-old among the ranks.
That is why Pereira is eyeing a back-up striker this summer, with Le Equipe reporting that Wolves and Strasbourg are in a fierce transfer battle to land Deportivo Alaves striker Joaquin Panichelli.
Panichelli, who has scored 20 goals in Spain’s second division on loan at Mirandes, is available for just €20 million (£17 million).
Still only 22-years-old, the Argentine is relatively untested in one of Europe’s top live leagues, having only made seven appearances for Alaves.
That being said, a haul of 20 goals suggests he could step up another level, with a move to the Premier League perhaps appealing.
Wolves in the hunt for a new striker
Pereira is predicting ‘big things’ for Wolves next season, and to achieve his goals, he will need to bolster his squad with goalscoring power.
Since Fabio Silva is set to leave Molineux alongside Cunha, with the future of Hwang Hee-chan uncertain, the Old Gold will be left light on the ground.
Therefore, it is no surprise to see Wolves being linked to Southampton striker Cameron Archer, who suffered relegation with the Saints.
Wolves are also keen on AZ Alkmaar forward Troy Parrott, as highlighted by journalist Ben Jacobs earlier this month.
A forward signing is near the top of the priority list this summer, with Panichelli the latest name to add to their transfer targets.
