Wolves fans are starting to feel a sense of excitement ahead of the summer transfer window as Vitor Pereira drafts up his list of targets.
The success of Wolves in 2025/26 could be determined by how they spend the £62.5 million set to be received from Matheus Cunha’s pending transfer to Manchester United.
Cunha’s 17 goals in all competitions this term have fired Wolves to Premier League survival, and now he’s set to embark on his next chapter.
Vitor Pereira will need to replace the 25-year-old’s output, as he’s been so influential to the Wanderers’ attacking threat in recent years.
Some names have already been included in the conversation to fill Cunha’s void, including Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott, although there is someone better placed to step into his shoes.
Wolves are in the strongest position to sign Yuri Alberto
Pereira has previously worked in Brazil as a manager, representing both Flamengo and Corinthians before joining Wolves.
The boss has been eager to reconnect with some of his former players, as Wolves have eyed a transfer for striker Yuri Alberto.
The Old Gold were unsuccessful in their goal to land the 24-year-old in January, but that hasn’t ended their pursuit, with Wolves set to bid £30 million for Alberto this summer.
While there could be a stumbling block in securing a deal for the one-cap Brazil international as Corinthians are demanding £50 million for Alberto, a report from Ge Globo holds promise for Pereira completing the signing.
Currently, Wolves are in the strongest position to present an offer as soon as the transfer window opens, giving everyone hope that he’s the man to replace Cunha.
Alberto is a clinical centre-forward with 70 goals in 182 appearances for Corinthians, including 110 across his career. Meanwhile, during Pereira’s time at the club, he was a huge fan of the attacker.
What Pereira has said about Wolves’ target Yuri Alberto
Pereira was the manager of Corinthians from February to November 2022 and had the joy of working with Alberto, who plundered 11 goals in 28 appearances under his guidance.
The former Santos superstar has since developed into a more complete centre-forward, but even when the 56-year-old was in charge three years ago, he held the 2001-born star in high regard.
Speaking after he scored in a 1-1 draw against Sao Paulo in September 2022, Pereira lauded Alberto as an ‘animal’, telling of his ferocity in the press and ruthless finishing.
“Today was an animal! It took work, it was in space, won in the body, scored a beautiful goal and wore out the defenders of São Paulo a lot,” he said.
“Miranda ends up at the limit because he (Yuri Alberto) has this physical ability to go into space, has quality and is now starting to connect a little more with others, to realize what movements we expect from him, it is natural that he will evolve until the end of the season.”
Should Pereira get to link up with Alberto once more, the duo could strike up a wonderful relationship, and one that could inspire Wolves to glory.
