Wrexham Plot Stunning Double Swoop: Wolves Star and Aaron Cresswell Tipped to Lead Hollywood-Backed Defensive Revolution!
Wrexham are planning for life in the Championship, having made history by recording three successive promotions.
The Red Dragons have enjoyed a remarkable rise since Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney bought the club, and they still hope there is more to come – as reaching the Premier League is the ultimate aim.
Firstly, the focus will be building on a side that is capable of competing in the Championship, and it has been reported the club will be ambitious once again in the market, with Aaron Cresswell thought to be a target.
Wrexham AFC must add experience
The links to Cresswell are understandable, as the West Ham left-back, who is set to be a free agent this summer, is someone who has high-level experience.
Whilst the likes of James McClean and Jay Rodriguez have played plenty of times in the Premier League, the reality is that the majority of the squad don’t even have high-end Championship experience.
So, Wrexham are right to target players who have been there and done it, which Cresswell has, and that could be invaluable in the dressing room over the course of a demanding campaign.
Craig Dawson would be a shrewd addition for Wrexham AFC
Of course, Wrexham can’t only sign players who are coming towards the end of their careers, but there must be a focus on bringing in individuals who can make an instant impact.
And, Craig Dawson is another who fits the bill on multiple fronts for the Welsh side.
The centre-back, a former teammate of Cresswell at West Ham, is currently at Wolves, but he has been frozen out under Vitor Pereira, so he will leave in the summer when his contract expires.
The 35-year-old was excellent for Wolves in his first 18 months at Molineux, but the past year was much tougher, and, in truth, it seems as though his days in the top-flight are over.
Yet, Dawson is still capable of doing a very good job in the Championship, and Parkinson’s set-up in a back three is ideal for the defender.
Whilst he lacks pace, that will be less of an issue given the cover that Dawson would have either side of him as part of the structure.
Then, in terms of his defensive qualities, the ex-West Brom man still has a lot to offer. He is dominant in the air, he is aggressive in the way he wins the ball back, and he is a good organiser, with Max Kilman having particularly flourished alongside Dawson during his time at Wolves.
Given his pedigree, there’s sure to be plenty of interest in Dawson, but Wrexham are an attractive option right now, as players will see a club with real ambition and momentum as they continue to make history.
This summer is set to be an exciting one for Wrexham, and the club will no doubt break their transfer record as they look to back Parkinson.
But, there are some excellent potential signings available for no fee, and if Cresswell and Dawson do reunite at the Racecourse Ground, it would be great business and a statement of intent from newly-promoted Wrexham.
