Millwall have some exciting young talent in their squad, and Zak Sturge is another player who can have a big future at The Den.

Millwall defender Zak Sturge is in top form at the moment and has retained his place in the starting XI ahead of some experienced talent.

Millwall have made an exceptional start after 12 games in the 2025/26 Championship campaign. The Lions are 3rd in the table and are one of the teams in form in the division.

Alex Neil’s side had a shaky start to the season, but since their loss at home to Coventry City, they have won four from four. The wins include three deserving victories at home. The South London outfit had previously lost three of four games at The Den.

The Lions have been active in 2025 in both transfer windows, and the club’s recruitment has improved drastically over the last few years. One arrival that has been a standout under Neil is Zak Sturge.

The 21-year-old spent the second half of last term on loan for the South London side and made the move permanent this summer from Chelsea for an undisclosed fee.

The left-back made just five appearances for Millwall last season, but the Lions saw enough to want to keep him at The Den. Now, Sturge is demonstrating that he is more than capable of starting in the Championship and can be a reliable option in defence.

Zak Sturge has huge potential

Sturge is still in the early stages of his career, and it was a surprise for Chelsea to let him leave. The 21-year-old had previously had a short stint on loan at Peterborough United in 2023. However, he was recalled after failing to hold down a spot in the starting XI ahead of Harrison Burrows.

The left-back has only made 35 senior appearances to date, and his level of performance is surprising given his limited minutes in the football league. The Englishman had been a vital player for the Chelsea U21s before joining Millwall.

Sturge could be another player that the Lions have got spot on with their recruitment, and time will only tell how good the youngster can be with more games under his belt.

Zak Sturge has been excellent for Millwall

The 21-year-old has made 10 appearances in all competitions for Millwall this term and has started the last four games for Neil’s side. He scored his first professional goal at the start of the month in a 3-0 win over West Brom.

The South London outfit aren’t short of options at left-back. Joe Bryan and Alfie Doughty would have been the presumed starting choices, but Sturge has continued to keep them out of the starting XI.

The defender has stepped up for the Lions and has played a part in every clean sheet kept by Millwall this season. More goals and assists will come to his game, but his overall reliability at the back must be commended.
