Birmingham City transfer latest as youngster Brandon Khela is wanted by League One clubs on loan
Birmingham City utility man Brandon Khela is being lined up for a loan move by League One clubs ahead of the new season, it has been claimed. Khela is coming off the back of two fruitful loan moves previously, to Scottish outfit Ross County and then, in the second half of last season, to League Two promotion winners Bradford City.
Blues boss Chris Davies had a good look at Khela in pre-season last year and he impressed, before being granted his opportunity in the EFL Cup, in which he scored a stunning winning goal at Charlton Athletic in the first round of the competition back in August of last year.
Khela, 20, made a couple of league appearances early into the campaign and also featured in Blues ‘ Vertu Trophy and FA Cup commitments as the first half of the season wore on, but he was then loaned out to Bradford in January, having fallen down the pecking order of his parent club.
At Bradford, Khela started 11 of his 15 appearances as they sealed a long-awaited promotion back to the third tier in dramatic circumstances on the final day of the season, at the expense of George Hall’s and Alfie Chang’s Walsall.
Khela, who signed a new deal with Blues in the winter of 2023 which means he still has two years left on his existing contract, is reportedly being eyed by both Blackpool and Lincoln City after those exploits at Valley Parade which, coupled with his Blues cameos, suggested he is ready for the step up to League One football on a more regular basis.
Steve Bruce’s Seasiders missed out on a play-off place last year having risen from the doldrums under his stewardship, while Lincoln under Michael Skubala finished in mid-table. It’s expected that Blues would entertain the prospect of Khela heading back out on another loan spell as they continue to try and upgrade all departments of their squad in the window.
